A Win On Debut in Estoril

‘Let’s start as we mean to go on’ comments Jamie Day as the team secures a stunning win at our debut weekend in Estoril.

Following months of hard work and preparation by the entire team, it was finally time to go racing in Estoril for round one of the GT4 Winter Series. As one of a number of new teams to enter the competitive GT4 Winter Series Championship, it was anyones guess as to who would come out on top in the first day of testing at the Circuito Estoril in Portugal.

Following a productive few days of testing, both Mikey and Jamie adapted well to an ever changing circuit, regularly topping the timing sheets in the lead up to Saturday and the first qualifying session of the season.

As Saturday rolled round, confidence in the team was high as Jamie headed out for Qualifying Session One, achieving a commanding P2 time of 1:59.446, just 0.310 off of pole position.

Before long it was time for Qualifying Two, and Mikey’s turn to set the starting position for the second sprint race of the weekend. After a busy qualifying session, he came over the line in P7 after hitting traffic in the final corner, taking away what would otherwise have been a blistering P2.

With the final race of the weekend decided by a combination of both Quali 1 & Quali 2 times, the boys lined up on the grid in P3 for the one hour endurance race.

Race One: Sprint

After a masterful drive by Jamie in the first 30 minute sprint of the weekend, he brought home the teams first ever race win, fending off some mighty competition from the chasing pack.

Race Two: Sprint

After a strong start, Mikey managed to quickly make up a couple of places - extending the lead and creating a healthy gap before the chequered flag came out at the 30 minute mark.

Race Three: Endurance

The last race of the weekend brought our second trip to the podium, with Mikey rounding off an impressive opening stint from Jamie Day to bring home P2.

We leave Estoril on a high, achieving not one, but two podiums in our first race of the weekend since launching our team in November of last year. A huge achievement, and one that showcases the incredible efforts of the whole team. Our attention now turns to Round 2 in just over a weeks time in Portimao, where we’ll go again and aim to set foot on the podium once again.
